Hosei Kijima Named to 2023 ACC Preseason Watch List

The senior has been a versatile player for the Demon Deacons over his first three seasons in Winston-Salem.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer senior Hosei Kijima has been named to the 2023 ACC Preseason Watch List, the league announced on Wednesday.
In his career to date, Kijima has appeared in 46 matches with 35 starts, logging 20 points off six goals and eight assists.
Last year, the Yokohama, Japan, native scored three goals – all of which were game-winning strikes – including the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over UCF in the regular season opener at Spry Stadium. Additionally, Kijima logged an assist in Wake Forest's 5-1 victory over Winthrop.
As a sophomore in 2021, Kijima started all 20 of his appearances to record a goal and a career-high five assists as Wake Forest advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
In his debut campaign in 2020-21, Kijima appeared in 16 matches with seven starts as the Demon Deacons would appear in the Elite Eight after he logged a pair of assists in a 2-1 victory over Kentucky in the Round of 16.
Including a 7-1-0 record last season, Wake Forest is 24-9-3 when Kijima is in the Starting XI and 11-0-0 when he records a goal contribution.
Wake Forest, ranked No. 18 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, opens the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 24 against Grand Canyon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
