Garrison Tubbs Named to 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

The award is given annually to the top soccer player in the country.
KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Wake Forest men's soccer's Garrison Tubbs has been named to the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list. The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
The Brunswick, Ga., native is one of 37 players selected to the watch list and one of five from the ACC.
Wake Forest has had three MAC Hermann Trophy winners in program history: Marcus Tracy (2008), Ian Harkes (2016) and Jon Bakero (2017). The Demon Deacons are one of nine programs to have three or more players selected for the prestigious award and is the most recent school to have back-to-back winners in Harkes and Bakero.
Tubbs was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches' watch list for defenders and was named to two preseason All-American lists: (College Soccer News First Team and TopDrawerSoccer Third Team).
Through his first three seasons with the Demon Deacons, Tubbs has appeared in 54 career matches with 52 starts, tallying 13 points off seven assists and three goals while Wake Forest has recorded 22 clean sheets during that span.
Wake Forest, ranked No. 18 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, opens the regular season tonight at Spry Stadium against Grand Canyon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
