Wake Forest Athletics Welcomes New Public Address Announcers for 2023-24 Academic Year

The role of a public address announcer at an event includes the introduction of starting lineups, in-game action and other in-venue announcements as needed.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest Athletics welcomed nearly 400,000 fans at its 196 events during the 2022-23 academic year as the Deacs won countless games and created memorable moments for the Wake Forest, Winston-Salem and Triad Community as those capacity crowds enjoyed the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina. 

Deacon Nation and Wake Forest University honored the historic two-decade by Jeffrey Griffin this past season as he has served as the voice for Demon Deacons football since 2001. Additionally in recent years, Griffin served as the PA voice for women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, field hockey and both tennis programs.

Through a search process this past spring and summer, Wake Forest Athletics has selected multiple new public announcers for its home events this upcoming academic year and moving forward. 

Meet the new voices of home Demon Deacons events:
  • Football:
    • Brian Rushing
      • Brian Rushing has over 15 years experience and has served as a public address announcer at the collegiate and professional level. His stops most recently include Longwood University, USC Upstate and Winthrop. 
  • Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Volleyball:
    • Joe Cristy
      • Joe Cristy joins the Wake Forest community in this role with 17 years of experience as he has served as the PA announcer for eight sports at High Point University. Additionally, he voiced the 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup, which the Demon Deacons competed in, and he has most recently worked the 2022 ACC Men's & Women's Soccer Championships and the 2023 New York Life ACC Men's Basketball Tournament.
  • Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer and Field Hockey:
    • Tom Purvis
      • Tom Purvis has multiple years of experience at the University of Idaho as he previously served as the Vandals' PA Address announcer for Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Volleyball.
