The Montclair, N.J., native led the Demon Deacons in scoring each of the last two seasons while earning All-ACC honors.

HARRISON, N.J. -- Wake Forest men's soccer's Roald Mitchell, a two-time All-ACC selection, has signed a Homegrown Contract with the New York Red Bulls of the MLS, the organization announced on Sunday.

Mitchell becomes the 11th Demon Deacon to sign a Homegrown Contract under head coach Bobby Muuss and the 14th Homegrown Contract signing in program history.

He joins Garrison Tubbs as Deacs to sign Homegrown Contracts following the 2023 season and the third Wake Forest men's soccer alum to sign a Homegrown Contract with the Red Bulls after Omir Fernandez and Kevin Politz.

The 11 Homegrown signings since 2017 are also most in the country over the last seven years.

"I want to start off by thanking everyone from the faculty and staff to the coaches who have pushed me to become the best version of myself on and off the field," Mitchell said. "To the fans and the community, your relentless support has made the biggest impact on my motivation and strength as a player. To my teammates, these three years have given me a brotherhood that will last a lifetime. Although my time at Wake Forest is up, the memories I have created here will never leave me. As I reflect on this chapter of my life, I am grateful for the experiences, friendships and support that have shaped my journey. Thank you, Wake Forest."

"We are proud of what Roald accomplished over his three seasons with our program including a pair of well-deserved All-ACC selections while embarrassing every opportunity presented to him and growing every step of the way," Muuss said. "Roald has matured not only in every aspect of his game, but into the wonderful young man who has strived to reach this moment. We are excited to follow his journey and wish him nothing but the best for what's ahead."

In his three seasons in Winston-Salem, Mitchell appeared in 60 matches with 39 starts, recording 51 points off of 21 goals and nine assists. Six times the Montclair, N.J., native scored game-winning goals as he led the Deacs in scoring offensively each of the last two seasons.

As a junior this fall, Mitchell earned All-ACC second-team honors and a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region third-team selection as he scored a career-high nine goals with three assists.

He notched game-winning goals against Furman, Liberty and North Carolina, as he became just the sixth Demon Deacon in program history to record multiple hat tricks in a career joining Scott Sealy, Erik Brandsma, John Duguid, Henry Riggs-Miller and Wake Forest Sports Hall of Famer Mark Erwin, with his three-goal performance against the Paladins.

During his sophomore campaign in 2022, Mitchell scored seven goals while earning the first of his All-ACC second-team selections. In a victory over Winthrop, he scored his first career hat trick as his seven points on the evening were most by a Demon Deacon since 2014. He scored twice against ACC opponents including the game-winning goal in a victory over NC State.

As a freshman, Mitchell appeared in all 21 matches to score five goals along with two assists. All five of his goals came in the last two months of the season including the game-winning goal against FIU in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
