Zach Tom, Green Bay Packers advance to the NFC Divisional round.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wild Card Weekend has concluded, with two Demon Deacons set to compete in the Divisional Round. Here is a quick look at what happened over the past week involving the ProDeacs.
Tom, Packers Blow Past Dallas
Offensive lineman Zach Tom and the Green Bay Packers earned a dominant, 48-32 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. Tom helped protect quarterback Jordan Love and allowed him to go 16-of-21 for 272 yards and three touchdowns. It also marked just the third time this season the Cowboys were unable to record a sack and first since week three against the Raiders. Green Bay also added 143 yards and three touchdowns on the ground for an average of 4.3 yards per-carry.
Tom posted a 91.4 run block grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), the highest mark on the team by over 16 points and the highest of his career. He also finished with the fourth-highest overall offensive rating (83.9) on the team out of all players that played at least half of the offensive snaps.
Now, the Packers will look ahead to the Divisional Round clash with the No. 1-seeded San Francisco 49ers for a chance to make their second NFC Championship game in four years. The game is slated to begin Sunday at 8:15 p.m. on FOX.
Bates III Named All-Pro
Pro Bowl safety Jessie Bates III was named to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team, as well as the NFL Players Association All-Pro team. It marked the first All-Pro bids of his career.
He finished the season first on the team in tackles (132), pass deflections (11), interceptions (6), interception return yards (95), defensive touchdowns (1) and forced fumbles (3). His 132 tackles ranked second out of all NFL safeties, while his nine forced turnovers were tied for the league-best with Antoine Winfield and DaRon Bland.
He also posted the highest defensive PFF grade of his career at 90.6, which ranked fourth in the NFL and second out of all safeties. It marked the second 90-plus PFF grade of his career in addition to his 2020 campaign (90.1).
