Wake Forest’s Shannon Honored as 2024 Winston Under 40 Leadership Award Recipient

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest Athletics is thrilled to celebrate Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration and Strategic Operations Ellie Shannon as she has been named a 2024 Winston Under 40 Leadership Award recipient. This recognition, presented by Greater Winston-Salem Inc. and the Winston Under 40 Young Professionals Program, highlights exceptional young leaders who are making significant contributions in their professional fields and local communities.
In her role at Wake Forest, Shannon is a key member of Director of Athletics John Currie's senior staff, overseeing operational projects and serving as the sport administrator for women's basketball, men's golf, and women's golf. Her leadership has been instrumental in several major initiatives, including the operational planning for the new mixed-use development, "The Grounds," adjacent to Allegacy Stadium.

"Her commitment to excellence, attention to detail, and ability to connect with people make her a tremendous leader within our athletics program and across the community. We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved recognition for her."
Shannon joined Wake Forest in 2012 and has steadily risen through the ranks to her current leadership position. She also works closely with partners like ASM Global, Proof of the Pudding, and the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP World Tour event, and has spearheaded several high-profile initiatives for the department.
"I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this award and to be recognized alongside such an outstanding group of professionals," said Shannon. "Wake Forest and the Winston-Salem community have given me incredible opportunities to grow as a leader, and I'm excited to continue working with my colleagues and partners to drive positive change as we move forward together."
A native of Otisville, Michigan, Shannon holds degrees from Grand Valley State and Kansas State and resides in Winston-Salem with her wife, Julie, and their daughter, Clarke.
