This marks the first POTW award for the Deacs since Emma Douglass last October.

CHARLOTTE – Following an incredible run at the Royals XC Challenge last Friday, sophomore Grace Wassell of the Wake Forest women's cross country team has been tabbed ACC Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

The New Jersey-native delivered an impressive fourth-place individual finish in Charlotte, shattering her previous 5k personal-best by clocking an outstanding 17:17.01 and leading the Demon Deacons to a first-place team finish.

"I'm super grateful for the recognition and I'm ready to race hard again this weekend," Wassell said.

This marked her first time earning the honors as she became the first Wake Forest athlete to do so since Emma Douglass last October.

"Grace has worked incredibly hard to get to this point," associate head coach Ashley Bastron said. "So, it's great to see her dedication and commitment paying off. I'm really proud of her and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for Grace and the team."

Wassell and the rest of the women's squad will compete at the Pre-NCAA meet in Madison, Wisc, on Oct. 19th, while the men will travel to Charlottesville, VA for the Panorama Farms Invitational.
