Three Demon Deacons Earn All-ACC Honors

Trace Alphin, Cooper Flax and Dylan Borso are being recognized for their tremendous individual efforts during the 2024 season.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three members of the Wake Forest men's soccer team were selected for 2024 All-ACC honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Senior Trace Alphin and sophomore Cooper Flax earned All-ACC second-team honors while Dylan Borso was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
With the second-team selections for both Alphin and Flax, Wake Forest has now earned 61 All-ACC selections under 10th-year head coach Bobby Muuss.
Additionally, with Borso's selection, Wake Forest has had 12 players named to the All-Freshman Team over the last 10 seasons.
Trace Alphin | All-ACC Second-Team
Serving as a team captain this fall, Alphin has been tremendous in goal for the Demon Deacons as he led the ACC in goals against average (.875), save percentage (.829), total saves (34) and saves per game (4.25) in conference matches for goalkeepers that started all eight matches.
Of Wake Forest's five shutouts this season, three came against ACC foes (Boston College on Oct. 5, Duke on Oct. 12 and NC State on Nov. 1). Additionally, in six of the Deacs' eight ACC matches, Alphin recorded four or more saves while holding Virginia without a shot in the second half of a 1-1 draw on Sept. 13.
Alphin's 52 saves this season already mark a career-high and his current save percentage of .722 also is a personal best, surpassing the .694 mark set in 2022.
The senior currently ranks No. 2 in program history in career minutes by a goalkeeper (6,579) and No. 10 in career saves (175).
This marks the second-straight season the Raleigh, N.C., native has been named to the All-ACC second-team, as he earned the honor in 2023 along with being named a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region second-team selection last fall.
Cooper Flax | All-ACC Second Team
Recently earning the captain's armband, Flax has been a leader for the Demon Deacons this fall as he currently ranks No. 1 in points (13) and goals (six).
Starting all 19 matches for the Demon Deacons to date, Flax has logged a Wake Forest field player-high 1,641 minutes of action.
Flax's six goals is already a personal best, as four have come against ACC opponents. When the Dix Hills, N.Y., native has recorded a goal contribution this fall, Wake Forest is 6-0-1.
A three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree, Flax previously was named to the 2022 ACC All-Freshman Team.
Dylan Borso | ACC All-Freshman Team
Joining the Deacs this fall as the highest rated college commit, Borso has appeared in all 19 matches with six starts to record seven points via three assists and two goals.
Borso twice has had three-point outings, first in a 2-1 comeback victory against Syracuse on Sept. 27 in which he scored his first-career goal and an assist on the game-winning strike by junior Basit Umar. Two weeks later, he also recorded a goal and an assist as Wake Forest erased a 1-0 halftime deficit at UNCW to score a 4-1 victory over the Seahawks.
Additionally, the Chicago native recorded an assist on Wake Forest's game-winning goal against Syracuse in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
Borso is the fourth active Demon Deacon to be named an ACC All-Freshman Team selection, joining Flax (2022), Vlad Walent (2022) and Liam O'Gara (2023).
