The rising junior returns to his hometown with previous ACC experience during his first two collegiate seasons.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer has announced the addition of Winston-Salem native Tate Lorentz to the team's roster. Lorentz joins the 2024 ACC Champions following two seasons at North Carolina.

"I couldn't be happier bringing Tate home to Winston-Salem," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "He has been around Wake Forest his entire life and has a desire to compete and help this program reach its goal of winning trophies. He has a high football IQ and has the pace and technical ability to compete in the ACC."

In two seasons with the Tar Heels, Lorentz appeared in nine matches after making his collegiate debut against Duke on Sept. 24, 2023. During the 2024 campaign, he appeared in eight matches and recorded a season-high 69 minutes of action. All five of his shot attempts during the season were on frame.

Prior to his time in Chapel Hill, Lorentz was twice named NC Fusion Player of the Year and earned a pair of ECNL All-Conference honors.

At the U16 level he scored 19 goals and added 11 assists before contributing 29 goals and 15 assists at U17.

Graduating from Mount Tabor High School, Lorentz is the second Winston-Salem native on the Deacs' roster, joining former Fusion teammate Liam O'Gara. He will join the Deacs as a mid-year enrollee in January along with Chandler Young.
