Deacs Get Through Round and a Half on Day One of Valspar

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team began play at the Valspar Augusta Invitational Friday morning and were able to get in the entire first round and the first half of the second round before play was called due to darkness.
The event was originally scheduled to start Saturday March 9 but got moved up due to inclement weather. The second round will finish Sunday morning ahead of the final round being played. There will be no play on Saturday.
Wake Forest currently sits in 11th with freshman Macy Pate leading the way as the only Deac inside the top 20. Throughout the day, the Deacs got as high as second on the leaderboard with a full lineup for the first time since the opening round of the Moon Golf Invitational three weeks ago.
Graduate Rachel Kuehn and freshman Brooke Rivers were the low Deacs for the first round as they both finished the first 18 holes of the day even par. Three birdies on the first nine and one birdie on the second nine was the tale of the tape for both players.
Freshman Macy Pate and senior Mimi Rhodes each finished the first round one over par. Rhodes birdied three of her first six holes to start the day and Pate had back-to-back birdies on eight and nine to make the turn at even par.
Sophomore Anne-Sterre den Dunnen went two over par in her opening round and is even through the first eight holes of her second round. Kuehn is also even par through her first eight holes of the second round.
Pate leads the way in the second round as she went two under par in her first nine holes. Rivers is one over nine holes into her second round and Rhodes is two over 10 holes into her second round.
Play will begin Sunday March 10 at 8:30 a.m. ET and live scoring will be available all day via Golfstat.
