CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Wake Forest men's golf team nearly advanced to the championship round of the ACC Championship on Monday afternoon, falling to No. 4 North Carolina 3-2 at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Junior Scotty Kennon helped put the Deacs in final match contention with the first point, winning his semifinal 2&1.  Kennon took a fierce lead on No. 12 going 4UP. He went on to win on the 17th hole, giving the Deacs their first point of the match.

Two spots behind him in the line up was senior Michael Brennan. After taking the lead on No. 13 going 2UP, Brennan would then finish on No. 18, tying the match 1UP at 2-2 and putting the second point on the board for the Deacs. He clinched the final point with an impressive second shot from the fairway, putting it within inches of a hole out for eagle.

Freshman Tom Haberer fought hard in his match all day against the No. 47 amateur in the world. After a near hole-in-one on hole No. 17, Haberer made birdie and had the opportunity to tie the match on the final hole of the competition. Maxwell Ford of North Carolina won the match by one stroke, ultimately advancing the Tar Heels to the championship.

Wake Forest was one-point away from what would have been their third-consecutive ACC Championship match appearance.

After Brennan won his second consecutive ACC Individual title on Sunday, the Deacs continued to add to their ACC-best title total as he became the 24th winner from Wake Forest:

From Coach Haas:

"25 straight years of going to regionals. I'm very, very proud of Wake Forest men's golf. It was a great match today, and it came down to the last hole like I knew it would. North Carolina is a great opponent. Our guys learned a lot about what it takes to move on, which will help us in regionals. We've had a very, very nice spring here towards the end, with some really nice finishes. Getting into match play by shooting the best round on Sunday in some very very bad weather was a great sign of maturity for this group. Our next step is NCAA Regionals to advance to the NCAA Championship out in LaCosta. We cannot wait."
