WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's basketball has added Churchill Abass to the roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season, announced head coach Steve Forbes. The Nigeria native played his first year of collegiate hoops for DePaul University this past season and will be a sophomore for the Deacs this upcoming school year.
"Churchill is only scratching the surface of the player he is going to become," said head coach Steve Forbes. "Everyone I talked to in the Big East spoke very highly of him. He is an extremely competitive person who possesses an intense desire to improve every time he steps on the court. He brings an athletic and physical presence to our frontcourt."
Churchill Abass | Center/Forward | 6-9 | 250 lbs | DePaul | Edo State, Nigeria
Abass started 13 of 30 games during his freshman season at DePaul, averaging 3.9 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor. He scored a season high 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in DePaul's regular-season finale vs. Xavier. Abass had 10 points and two steals at Seton Hall and recorded 9 rebounds vs. Marquette and 8 rebounds vs. Villanova.
Prior to college, Abass attended the NBA Africa Academy and emerged as a four-star prospect, ranked No. 81 nationally within the Class of 2023 by On3.com. He stood out as a breakout performer during the National Prep Invitational and joined the Basketball Africa League's (BAL) Elevate program – becoming one of 12 NBA Academy Africa players selected for participation. Abass also competed for U.S. Monastir in the BAL.
