- Women's Soccer:
- Powered by three first-half goals, the Wake Forest women's soccer team earned a dominant, 3-0 victory on the road against No. 2 Virginia Sunday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium.
- With two first-half goals from Caiya Hanks, it marked the first-career brace for the junior as she earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
- This marks the highest-ranked victory for Wake Forest since the 2-1 win at No. 2 Duke on Oct. 31, 2021. Of note, it was the largest win for the Deacs over a top-five opponent since the 3-0 victory against No. 5 Florida State in 2009.
- The Demon Deacons handed the Cavaliers their first loss of the 2024 campaign as Wake Forest has now won back-to-back games over Virginia for the first time since 2011-2012.
- Coming into Sunday, Virginia had only conceded twice all season. Three goals is the most scored against the Cavaliers in Charlottesville since Sept. 9, 2021.
- The Demon Deacons will now look ahead to a home clash with No. 1-ranked Stanford on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
- Field Hockey:
- Enjoying a 2-0 weekend, the Deacs outscored their opponents 8-1 over two matches against App State and VCU.
- The four goals in back-to-back matches marked the highest offensive output for the Deacs since scoring six goals in three-straight matches against Lafayette, UC Davis and Cal back in 2022.
- Wake Forest travels north to open ACC play at Boston College on Friday, Sept. 20. First touch against the Eagles is set for 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
- The Deacs conclude the trip to the Boston area with a match against UMass Lowell on Sunday at noon on ESPN+.
- Enjoying a 2-0 weekend, the Deacs outscored their opponents 8-1 over two matches against App State and VCU.
- Volleyball:
- Wake Forest enjoyed a successful third weekend of its 2024 fall campaign, going 3-0 in South Carolina's hosted invitational.
- The team collected wins over the host Gamecocks, Stetson and Florida International.
- Middle blocker Tina Grkovic again impressed as a defensive anchor, totaling 25 blocks through the three matches and 12 sets played. Freshman setter Becca Bellows racked up 80 total assists, also playing in 12 sets.
- The weekend sweep was the Deacs' first of the season and third overall in non-conference since the start of fall 2023.
- A final weekend of non-conference play is set for Wake Forest at home, as the Deacons will host two in-state opponents.
- App State is up first for a Friday evening tilt (Sept. 20) at 7 p.m. ET before a Davidson matchup happens on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) at 2 p.m. ET.
- Wake Forest enjoyed a successful third weekend of its 2024 fall campaign, going 3-0 in South Carolina's hosted invitational.
- Track & Field/Cross Country:
- With five Demon Deacons finishing in the top seven, the Wake Forest women's cross country team opened its 2024 season winning the Firetower Project run last Friday evening at the Don Kennedy Trails in Boone, N.C.
- As a team, the Demon Deacons tallied 20 points en route to Friday's victory, finishing 43 points ahead of second-place App State (63). Of note, the Deacs were the only team to have their entire top-five spread finish in the top-10.
- Individually, the Demon Deacons were paced by sophomore standout Brooke Wilson as she placed first overall, clocking 20:28.09. In their Wake Forest debuts, Angelina Perez (20:49.71) and Molly Dreher (20:58.58) finished second and fourth, respectively.
- Overall, Wake Forest had all 15 competitors finish in the top-50 Friday, with a meet-high 10 finishing in the top 30.
