The junior forward used two first-half goals to help the Demon Deacons defeat No. 2 Virginia.

CHARLOTTE – After scoring a first-half brace in the 3-0 victory over No. 2 Virginia on Sunday, junior forward Caiya Hanks of the Wake Forest women's soccer team has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

With the nod, Hanks became the first Demon Deacon to be tabbed ACC Offensive Player of the Week since Shayla Smart garnered honors on Sept. 7, 2021.

Hanks opened the scoring in the 17th minute against the Cavaliers, as senior forward Emily Murphy received the ball at midfield and made an excellent, darting run into the box before slipping it to the junior for the finish.

Her second goal of the afternoon came in the 37th minute when senior midfielder Emily Colton played a perfectly-weighted through ball and set Hanks free on goal. The junior made no mistake and finished with ease.

It marked the first-career brace for Hanks as she brought her season points tally to a team-high nine with three goals and three assists. Over the last two seasons, Hanks leads all Wake Forest players with 25 total points on nine goals and seven assists.

The 2022 All-ACC Freshman honoree helped the Demon Deacons pick up their highest-ranked victory since the 2-1 win at No. 2 Duke on Oct. 31, 2021. Additionally, it was the largest win for the Deacs over a top-five opponent since the 3-0 victory against No. 5 Florida State in 2009.
