A 35th-minute goal from Elliana Ramirez secured the point for Wake Forest.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team (10-3-4, 4-2-3 ACC) snapped a twelve-game win streak and handed the No.1-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish their first dropped ACC points of the season (13-0-2, 8-0-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons have now equaled the longest home unbeaten streak in program history, tying the mark set just last season at 15 matches. Wake Forest finished the regular season with an 8-0-3 record at Spry this season and are a stellar 22-1-8 at home over the last three seasons.
This marked the first non-defeat against the Fighting Irish at home in program history and is the second-ever draw between the two schools, with the first coming on Oct. 3, 2013 (1-1, 2OT).
With tonight's result, the Demon Deacons are now 4-2-3 in conference play and are currently seventh in the ACC with 15 points, just one point behind Cal in sixth for the final spot in the conference tournament with one match left to play.
After going behind in the 16th minute, Wake Forest responded well and found an equalizer in the 35th as freshman forward Elliana Ramirez pounced on a rebound following Carly Wilson's shot and put it into the back of the net with ease.
It marked the second goal of the season for Ramirez and her first at Spry Stadium.
In net, redshirt sophomore Valentina Amaral added three saves to help preserve the draw for the Demon Deacons, including a diving save in the 51st minute to keep out a strike that was aiming for the top right corner.
The Oviedo, Fla., native has now recorded 57 saves on the season while maintaining a 0.89 goal against average.
