Kicker Connor Calvert named the game-winning field goal as time expired, while Patterson led the Demon Deacons defensively against SMU.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest kicker Connor Calvert and defensive back Davaughn Patterson have earned ACC Weekly Honors following the Demon Deacons' 13-12 victory over SMU on Saturday.

Calvert earned ACC Specialist of the Week and Patterson was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week.

Wake Forest's defense held SMU to 246 yards of offense, the fewest in a game for the Mustangs since Nov. 28, 2015, against Memphis. The victory also snapped SMU's streak of 20-straight conference wins in the regular season, including all 11 previous ACC contests and their final nine games as a member of the American.

Specialist of the Week - Connor Calvert
  • Wake Forest won Saturday's game on the final play of regulation as kicker Connor Calvert drilled a 50-yard field goal as time expired.
    • It marked the first win for Wake Forest on the game's final play since Oct. 9, 2021 when the Deacs won at Syracuse in overtime when Sam Hartman connected with A.T. Perry on a 22-yard touchdown pass.
    • Additionally, the kick marked Wake Forest's first 50-yard field goal since Mike Weaver connected on one from that same distance on Nov. 6, 2014 against Clemson.
  • Calvert also hit a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter against the Mustangs.
  • He now has 11 made field goals this season, which ranks tied for fifth in the ACC.

Defensive Back of the Week - Davaughn Patterson
  • Defensively, the Demon Deacons held the Mustangs to just 246 total yards, including only 75 yards on the ground, 171 through the air and only eight first downs.
    • SMU's 246 yards of offense was the fewest in a game for the Mustangs since Nov. 28, 2015, against Memphis.
  • Wake's victory snapped SMU's streak of 20-straight conference wins in the regular season, including all 11 previous ACC contests and their final nine games as a member of the American.
  • Davaughn Patterson led the Wake Forest defense with seven tackles, a half-tackle-for-loss, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. That loose ball he caused was one of those three key turnovers.
  • Since arriving at the FBS level in 2017, head coach Jake Dickert's defenses have totaled 175 turnovers. That total would rank 11th most by any school in the country during that seven-year stretch and the only ACC school to have more would be Clemson:
