Demon Deacons Reinforce Momentum as Deacon Nation is Challenged to Lock in Tickets for 2026 Season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University Vice President & Director of Athletics John Currie announced Tuesday that head football coach Jake Dickert has signed a long-term contract to continue as the head coach of the Demon Deacons.

"Our family could not be more grateful to call Wake Forest and Winston-Salem home," said Coach Dickert. "Serving as the head coach of this program is a privilege, and I want to thank President Susan R. Wente, John Currie, our board of trustees and University leadership for their belief in what we are building. Over the last 11-plus months, our staff and student-athletes have embraced a new process of being 'Built in the Dark.' When John approached me a few weeks ago about the University's desire to further invest in our program, I was both humbled and energized. This commitment ensures that our staff has the stability, resources and support necessary to continue elevating Wake Forest football. I'm proud of this team, our staff and our seniors who built the foundation for this new era, and excited for what's ahead. There has never been a better time to be a Demon Deacon."

Under Coach Dickert's leadership, Wake Forest has surged back onto the national stage in 2025.

The Demon Deacons capped the regular season at 8-4, marking the fifth time in the last nine years — and making Wake Forest one of just four ACC programs (alongside Clemson, Louisville, and NC State) — to post eight or more wins at least five times in that span. This sustained success underscores Wake Forest's position as the winningest Power 4 program in the Carolinas this fall and tied for the most victories among all FBS teams in the region in 2025. This season's Wake Forest highlights include two CFP Top-25 wins: a road victory at No. 12 Virginia — the Cavaliers' only home loss — and a home triumph that snapped SMU's 20-game regular-season conference winning streak.

Defensively, Wake Forest was elite this season. The Deacs ranked sixth in the ACC and 38th nationally in scoring defense, are top-five in the league in total and passing defense, and did not allow a touchdown against either No. 12 Virginia or North Carolina. Additionally, 12 players garnered All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors this afternoon marking the ninth consecutive season the Demon Deacons have had six or more players make the All-ACC teams. With that, the Deacs 74 All-ACC honors is the fifth most overall in the ACC since the 2019 season.

"Coach Dickert is an exceptional leader, teacher, and program builder whose impact on Wake Forest has been immediate and transformational," said President Susan R. Wente. "His commitment to developing our student-athletes academically, athletically and personally reflects the very best of our University. We are thrilled that he will continue leading this program for years to come."

"Jake Dickert has proven himself to be one of college football's rising head coaches and one of the truly special leaders in the ACC," said Currie. "To earn eight wins in his first season — the most by any first-year coach in Wake Forest history — while defeating two CFP Top-25 opponents and establishing one of the top defenses in the nation is extraordinary. He has galvanized our locker room, our campus, and our community. Coach Dickert is exactly the type of leader who inspires players, and he and his family fit seamlessly into the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem community."

Wake Forest's 2025 season has also reignited DEACTOWN. The Deacs have now played in front of 12 sellouts since 2021, including a packed house of 32,390 vs. North Carolina. Student attendance continued to average 80 percent of undergraduate students and the Deacs remain one of the top home-field environments in the ACC.

A Challenge to Deacon Nation: Get Your Bowl Tickets and Lock in Your Seats for 2026
With momentum at its highest point in years — and the Deacs remaining the winningest program in North Carolina this century — Vice President & Director of Athletics John Currie has a direct challenge to Deacon Nation as he shared in today's edition of From the Quad:

"Coach Dickert has reaffirmed his commitment to Wake Forest Football, and while we still have a big bowl trip to prepare for, now is the time for fans everywhere to make plans to cheer on the Demon Deacons in person in 2026. It has never been more important to pack Allegacy Stadium for every home game as we look forward to a nine-game ACC schedule and premium matchups. When the lights come on in Allegacy Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, we expect a loud and rowdy crowd to welcome our Built in the Dark team under the lights for Opening Night. I urge every member of Deacon Nation to plan now to be here — and bring a friend!"
