Wake Forest in Eighth After Two Rounds of NCAA Amherst Regional

5/12/2025 7:29:00 PM | Men's Golf

Senior Marshall Meisel led the Deacs with a bogey-free 66 in the second round

AMHERST, Va.- Battling through the rain, the Wake Forest men's golf team finished up round two of the NCAA Amherst Regional on Monday.

Sitting tied for eighth place at 14-over through two rounds, the Demon Deacons head into Tuesday's final round nine strokes outside of the top-5 cutline. Following the conclusion of the 54-hole stroke play event, the top-five teams will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

After a four-over opening round, senior Marshall Meisel jumped 43 positions up the individual leaderboard carding a bogey-free 66 (-4) in his second round. Meisel carded the lowest score yet by a Wake Forest player this week.

Heading into the final round, Meisel is tied for 12th place and is six strokes off the individual lead.

With 18 holes left to play, sophomore Tom Haberer goes into round three tied for 28th place. Haberer registered a second round score of 76 (+6).

Senior Scotty Kennon and junior Jakob Melin both sit inside of the top-50, holding a share of 47th place at seven-over par. Melin shot a 78 (+8) in his second round while Kennon ended his day with a 73 (+3) to help move up the leaderboard eight spots.

Sophomore Kyle Haas ended his round at 11-over and tied for 62nd.

For the final round of stroke play, Wake Forest will tee off Tuesday with Pepperdine (+12) and Stanford (+14), with the first tee time set for 9:55 a.m.

From Coach Haas:

"We had it going somewhat nicely today and did not finish the round like we should've. Certainly not out of it by any means, but we need our best round of the week and we will see what happens. We will have to have a good clean day tomorrow. Probably starting off the backside in the morning, which is something we haven't done this week, but maybe that'll be a good thing. Our guys always fight until the end. Hopefully, we'll have a wonderful round tomorrow. Go Deacs!"
