7/28/2025 10:10:00 AM | Football
Wake Forest returns to the site of its 2021 ACC Championship game appearance and 2017 Bowl triumph.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wake Forest Football will take on Notre Dame in the 2027 Duke's Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium, marking the Demon Deacons' first appearance in Charlotte since the 2021 ACC Championship Game. The game is part of the existing ACC–Notre Dame scheduling agreement and will be played on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2027 as previously set. Information on ticket pricing and availability — including exclusive pre-sale opportunities for Wake Forest fans and donors — will be shared at a later date.
"Charlotte is an ACC town, and Wake Forest has the largest and most significant academic footprint of any conference institution in the Queen City," said Vice President and Director of Athletics John Currie. "With our campus just 82 miles from Bank of America Stadium, the 2027 Duke's Mayo Classic against Notre Dame is a tremendous opportunity to elevate Wake Forest's presence and celebrate with incredible alumni, fans, and partners across the region."
The 2027 matchup will feature Wake Forest — the winningest college football program in North Carolina this century — against a tradition-rich Notre Dame program that has made three College Football Playoff appearances.
Wake Forest's longtime presence in the Queen City was bolstered in June with the official opening of The Pearl, a new 26-acre innovation district and home to the second campus of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine — the first and only four-year medical school in Charlotte — and the headquarters of Advocate Health, the third-largest nonprofit healthcare system in America. As the academic core of the Advocate/Atrium system, Wake Forest School of Medicine is led by Dr. Ebony Boulware, who serves as both Dean and Chief Science Officer & Vice Chief Academic Officer of Advocate Health. Dean Boulware welcomed the inaugural WFU Charlotte medical school class on July 19, including Wake Forest men's soccer alum Sebastian Scrivner.
Next year, Wake Forest plans to relocate the School of Professional Studies and the Charlotte programs of the School of Business from their current uptown location to The Pearl—consolidating Wake Forest University's ACC-leading presence in Charlotte into one dynamic location.
Additionally, the 2027 Duke's Mayo Classic reflects the Atlantic Coast Conference's ongoing commitment to Charlotte, where the league relocated its headquarters in 2023. The Queen City remains a central hub for major ACC events across multiple sports, including football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. Most recently, Charlotte hosted ACC Kickoff last week, with Coach Jake Dickert and the Demon Deacons taking center stage last Wednesday.
"Will Pitts, Danny Morrison, and the Charlotte Sports Foundation are tremendous ACC and Wake Forest partners, and we appreciate Commissioner Jim Phillips and Pete Bevacqua, VP & Director of Athletics at Notre Dame, for their collaboration in making this showcase possible," said Currie. "Deacon Nation will be ready to paint Charlotte Black and Gold—just as we will at the ACC basketball and baseball tournaments in Charlotte next spring."
While this game is still two years away, Wake Forest encourages Charlotte residents to and learn more about WAKECharlotte — a volunteer-led group dedicated to engaging alumni, parents, and friends in the Queen City. WAKECharlotte organizes events throughout the year for all ages, including social gatherings, athletic outings, networking opportunities, and community service.
Meanwhile, fans do not have to wait long to see the Demon Deacons back on the gridiron again as Wake Forest takes the field for Opening Night at Allegacy Stadium in about a month on Friday, Aug. 29.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Jake Dickert, Wake Forest is set to enter an exciting new era. The Demon Deacons will look to build on their proud tradition and sustained excellence—Wake Forest is the winningest FBS program in the state of North Carolina this century—and continue rising with the support of one of college football's most passionate fan bases.
Wake Forest Athletics recently announced that both single-game tickets and the fan-favorite Bojangles Four-Pack ticket packages are on sale now for all seven home games this fall. These offerings provide flexible, affordable ways for families, friends, and fans of all ages to experience Demon Deacon football live at Allegacy Stadium.
