Eight Demon Deacons Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams earned multiple academic distinctions from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced by the national office on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Overall, eight Demon Deacons garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, including three athletes from the women's team and five runners from the men's squad.
Senior Elizabeth Whaley and junior Angelina Perez both earned the honor for the second-consecutive season, while redshirt junior Joe O'Brien received the honor for the third time in his career. Meanwhile, redshirt junior Daniel Winter and juniors Rocky Hansen, Hunter Jones, Charlie Sprott and Brooke Wilson were all named USTFCCCA All-Academic for the first time.
Additionally, both the men's and women's teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award recipients for the 10th-consecutive season. The men's squad recorded the highest GPA on campus as they finished the fall semester with a 3.64 cumulative GPA. Meanwhile, the women's team recorded a 3.53 cumulative GPA in the fall, the second highest on campus.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
Meanwhile, in order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
