Wake Forest will be back in action this Thursday against reigning national champions, No. 22 Florida State at Spry Stadium.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Battling hot temperatures, the No. 4 Wake Forest women's soccer team (10-1-1, 3-1-1 ACC) collected a point on the road against the Miami Hurricanes (8-3-2, ACC 3-2-1), Saturday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
With the draw, Wake Forest moves up a spot in the ACC standings to third, tied with Louisville and Miami with 10 points.
The first half stayed fairly quiet, with both teams recording a combined three shots through the first 45. In the second half, the Demon Deacons saw multiple opportunities in the offensive zone but ultimately, the Miami defense held its line.
Wake Forest's backline was essential to the victory, as the defense held the Hurricanes to six shots across the full 90, making it the lowest allowed shots since starting conference play. In goal, redshirt-junior goalkeeper Valetina Amaral stayed hot, tallying her sixth shutout of the season and 19th of her career.
Brick Wall Amaral
Across 53 appearances and 49 starts, redshirt-junior Valentina Amaral has positioned herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the country. Her performances in net have led to 19 individual career shutouts, six combined shutouts and 32 wins. In 2024, she finished the season with the best goals-against average in program history at 0.69 and her results since then have spoken for themselves. This season, Amaral leads the conference with a 0.46 GAA, 0.808 save percentage.
How It Happened
Demon Deacon Details to Note
From Coach da Luz
"We competed well against a tough Miami team on their home field. The 90 degree heat was difficult to deal with but our kids gave everything. Valentina had one incredible save to help us preserve another shutout. A road tie doesn't hurt us in the grand scheme of things and we have two great opportunities this week vs Florida State and UNC at Spry. We hope to see our fans out for both games!"
