BALTIMORE, Md. – Following his three-touchdown performance in a 41-7 victory at Cal, Wake Forest freshman tight end Dominick Barry has been selected as the Week 7 John Mackey Award Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
Established in 2000, the John Mackey Award annually recognizes the most outstanding collegiate tight end while preserving the legacy of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Mackey, one of the most influential players to ever play the position.
In the victory over the Golden Bears, Barry recorded four catches for 102 yards and three touchdowns.
He became the first Wake Forest tight end with a 100-yard receiving performance since Cam Serigne hauled in nine passes for 112 yards against Texas A&M on Dec. 29, 2017. Additionally, he is the first Demon Deacon tight end with three receiving touchdowns in a single game since Jake Freudenthal hauled in three touchdowns against NC State on Nov. 2, 2019.
Alongside Houston's Patrick Overmyer, Barry is also just the second tight end in the country this season with three or more receiving touchdowns in a single game.
His first touchdown capped a 99-yard scoring drive to open the night for the Demon Deacons, receiving a pass from redshirt junior quarterback Gio Lopez and taking it in from 39 yards out.
The Greenwood, Ind., native's second touchdown of the game came with just seconds remaining in the first half, a 30-yard connection with Lopez.
Barry's third and final touchdown of the evening came on Wake Forest's second drive of the second half, a two-yard score after Lopez rolled out to find him.
