NEWTON, Mass. - Wake Forest men's soccer scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half to earn a 2-1 road victory over Boston College on Friday night at Newton Campus Field.
Sophomore Alfred Debah and redshirt sophomore Pariss Mitchell found the back of the net to help the Demon Deacons improve to 8-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 in ACC play.
After a scoreless first half, the Deacs broke through in the 55th minute when Mitchell played a perfectly weighted long ball to Debah, who received it on the left wing before driving into the box and firing past the goalkeeper. The goal was Debah's second of the season and third of his career. Both of his goals this season have come in road ACC contests, previously scoring at Virginia Tech.
Just over three minutes later, Wake Forest doubled its advantage as Nolan Tinsley applied pressure to a Boston College defender, won possession and immediately played the ball across to Mitchell in front of goal for the finish.
It was Mitchell's second goal of the season and third assist as he recorded his second game with multiple goal contributions in ACC play this season, having already done so last month against Duke at home. Meanwhile, Tinsley logged his second career assist.
Boston College pulled a goal back in the 88th minute when Bryan Toro converted a chance assisted by Jack Burkhardt. However, Wake Forest held on through the final minutes to secure its fourth consecutive victory in the series over the Eagles.
Five Wake Forest players went the full 90 minutes, as defenders Daniel Krueger, Travis Smith, Jr. and Mason Sullivan joined midfielders David Ndong Nguema and Jose Perez in going the distance. They all played a major role in limiting the hosts to just two shots on goal throughout the match.
ACC STANDINGS UPDATE
Wake Forest moved to 12 points in ACC play, sitting second in the conference standings with a 4-2-0 league record.
ACC REGULAR-SEASON WINS SINCE 2015
With Friday's win, the Demon Deacons have recorded 62 ACC regular-season victories, nine more than second-place Clemson and 14 more than North Carolina. The total further underscores the program's sustained success in one of the nation's most competitive conferences.
NOTES
HOW IT HAPPENED
FROM COACH MUUSS
"I'm super proud of the guys for the way they played and adjusted to changes in the second half. Boston College is one of the hardest places to play on the road and we are coming home with three points. I loved the mentality after the match knowing we could have managed the end better, but that was a great road win and performance. We are going to temporarily enjoy this one and turn the page to play at home against a great UNC Asheville team that is leading the country in goals."
