Wake Forest Finishes 13th at Desimone Invitational

Junior Tom Haberer posted a top-20 finish.
DALY CITY, Calif. – The Wake Forest men's golf team closed out the final day of tournament play at the Desimone Invitational on Tuesday at Lake Merced Golf Club. As a team, the Deacs finished 13th in the loaded 15-team field with a total score of 871 (+7).
Junior Tom Haberer was the highest finisher for the Demon Deacons, tying for 20th place at three-under par. As the only Deac to finish under par, Haberer posted two under-par rounds of 70 (-2) and 67 (-5) to secure his spot inside the top 20.
Senior Jakob Melin shot three under-par in his opening round and ended the Desimone Invitational tied for 44th at two-over par for the tournament.
Following back-to-back rounds of 72 (E), junior Nicholas Prieto carded a final-round 75 (+3) to finish three-over par and tied for 50th.
Freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez registered a final-round 76 (+4) to finish 72nd at eight-over par, while senior Boyd Owens finished tied for 80th at 11-over.
Up Next
The Deacs travel to Palm City, Fla. for the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at the Floridian National Golf Club. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Houston, will begin with 36 holes on Monday, March 23 and conclude with 18 on March 24.
Of the 16-team field, 12 of the nation's top-35 teams according to the Scoreboard rankings will be participating in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational.

"Going off last in the high wind made for a difficult day. The course played very hard and you earn your tee time going early by playing better. Right towards the end of our second round yesterday afternoon we lost some valuable strokes, which put us behind the eight ball. Not a great showing, but we will be better for it. Go Deacs!"
