Fitzpatrick stormed to his first DP World Tour win with a brilliant back nine, overtaking defending champ Eugenio Chacarra.
NEW DELHI — Wake Forest men's golf alum Alex Fitzpatrick overcame a six-shot deficit with a blazing run of birdies Sunday to overcome Eugenio Chacarra with a 3-under 69 to win the Hero Indian Open, claiming his first DP World Tour title.
After opening his final round with two early bogeys to fall six shots behind Chacarra through five holes at DLF Golf and Country Club, Fitzpatrick flipped the script, carding seven birdies over his next ten holes to take a one-shot lead as Chacarra slipped.
Fitzpatrick birdied eight holes between No. 6 and No. 17 in the final round.
Chacarra, who began the day with a four-shot lead, stumbled late with three straight bogeys to fall four back and finished with a 75. Fitzpatrick, despite a double bogey on 18, still secured a two-shot win at nine-under 275.
Fitzpatrick joined his older brother, PGA Tour star Matt Fitzpatrick, as a winner on Tour and the siblings made history as the first ever to win in successive weeks on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
