Longtime game day presence remembered for her warmth, with the program launching support efforts for her family.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest Men's Soccer program is mourning the loss of a beloved member of its game day family, as longtime supporter Sandra Holder, affectionately known as "Miss Sandra," passed away unexpectedly this week.
For the past several years at Spry Soccer Stadium, Miss Sandra was a constant and welcoming presence, greeting fans, players and staff with warmth and enthusiasm that became synonymous with Wake Forest soccer. Her energy and kindness helped create an environment that made everyone feel at home, regardless of the result on the field.
"I speak on behalf of our entire staff, our current players, and so many former players in saying how deeply she impacted our program," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "Her warmth, her energy, and the genuine joy she brought to Spry Soccer Stadium made everyone feel welcome, through wins and losses alike. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, appreciated, and at home."
Miss Sandra's impact extended far beyond the stadium gates, leaving a lasting impression on Wake Forest student-athletes, coaches and fans. Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched and the community she helped foster around the program.
The Wake Forest men's soccer program is currently organizing efforts to support her family, including her daughter Natalie and grandson Trey, both of whom have been active members of the game day experience. A GoFundMe page has been created to assist the family during this difficult time, with a goal of raising more than $25,000. Fans willing and able to donate can do so here.
"As a Wake Forest family, we have an opportunity to come together and support them during this incredibly difficult time, just as Miss Sandra supported so many of us over the years," Muuss added.
In addition, the program will honor Miss Sandra's memory with a commemorative plaque placed beside the ticket booth at Spry Soccer Stadium, a fitting tribute to the place where she welcomed so many with a smile.
Wake Forest men's soccer extends its deepest condolences to Natalie, Trey and the entire family. Miss Sandra will be greatly missed, but her spirit will forever remain a part of the Wake Forest family.
