Deacs Wrap Round Two of NCAA Regional

BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – Following Tuesday's second round at the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional, the Wake Forest men's golf team sits in seventh place at four-under par overall. With one round remaining, the Demon Deacons are currently seven shots behind Southern California, who occupies the fifth and final spot inside the cutline.
The top five teams and the top individual from a non-qualifying team will punch their tickets tomorrow to Carlsbad, Calif. for the NCAA Championships, held at the Omni La Costa Resort from May 29-June 3.
Turning in his second under-par round of the week, junior Nicholas Prieto continues to lead the Deacs, carding a 70 (-1) during round two.. Prieto recorded five birdies in the second round and sits tied for 10th place at five-under par overall. Freshman Maddux Cook also posted a 70 (-1), climbing into a tie for 25th at one-under for the tournament.
Lorenzo Rodriguez and Jakob Melin each turned in a 73 (+2) to sit tied for 38th at one-over heading into the final day of competition.
For the final round of the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional, the Demon Deacons will tee off Wednesday with Houston (-3) and Kentucky (+2), with the first tee time set for 8:25 a.m. off hole No. 1.
From Coach Haas:
"You always have to believe your best round is coming. We will need a special day tomorrow at Bermuda Run. They have done a fantastic job of hosting this event. Our team will be ready to play starting at 8:25 a.m. off the first hole. The reality is we need to play a clean round of golf and, with our backs against the wall, hopefully play a little more freely tomorrow. The ball is really going a long way because of the warm weather, and in some ways we've had to make adjustments. The flag sticks are in locations that we are very familiar with having played Bermuda Run plenty of times this year. It will be a great day to go low. Our goal tomorrow is to have a round of the day and see what happens. Go Deacs!"
