WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) picked up its second clean sheet of the year with a 3-0 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks (1-1-0, 0-0-0 SEC) Sunday night at Spry Stadium.

The match featured a variety of goal scorers, with junior Lola Ressler tallying the opening goal of the night 16 minutes into the match. Transfers Riley Cross and Henley Tippins added to the lead with goals in the latter half of the match to secure the victory. Tippins and Cross recorded their first goals as Demon Deacons, with Cross netting the first of her career.

Wake Forest's backline held the Gamecocks to just five shots, while redshirt-junior goalkeeper Valentina Amral recorded one save.

The Spry Advantage
The Deacs have posted a stellar 28-3-9 record at home since the start of 2022, with its lone loss over the past three seasons coming against No. 1 Duke in 2024. Tonight extends the Deacs' unbeaten home streak to 18 games, dating back to October 2024. In 2025, Wake Forest finished the season with a 8-0-3 record at Spry, highlighted by a 1-1 draw with No. 1 Notre Dame to close the home regular season slate.

How It Happened

The squads battled hard out of the start, neither team recording a shot through the first eight minutes of the match.
Sophomore Riley Cross posted the first on target attempt of the night, but South Carolina goalkeeper Christina Tsaousis punched the shot high.
Wake Forest took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute as sophomore Lola Ressler sent the ball to the top right corner and evaded the keeper.
- The unassisted goal marked Ressler's fifth career goal and first of the season.
The Deacs continued to apply pressure to the Gamecocks, but couldn't find a scoring chance.
Goalkeeper Valentina Amaral saw her first action of the night in the 42nd minute off a South Carolina corner.
The Gamecocks pressured hard into the Deacs' defensive zone out of the break, but the Wake Forest backline was able to clear.
The Demon Deacons saw a prime scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute off a set piece, but were unable to bury the ball.
Shortly after, freshman Simone Basey and sophomore Tahlia Zadeyan made a key block at the top of the box.
Wake Forest doubled their lead in the 71st minute with a redirected header sent in from sophomore transfer Riley Cross.
Senior transfer Kaitlyn Sasadeusz made an immediate impact after subbing into the game.
- The forward battled her way into the box, throwing an attempt on the net, however South Carolina's keeper was there for the save.
Graduate student Henley Tippins took a rebound opportunity in the box to triple the Deacs' lead in the 80th minute.
Wake Forest defeated South Carolina, 3-0.
