Three Demon Deacons Set for Tuesday Winston-Salem Open Action

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Demon Deacons will take the court Tuesday at the Winston-Salem Open as Wake Forest's presence at the ATP 250 event continues with a pair of singles matches and a doubles matchup at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Following standout performances in the opening rounds of the tournament, Mees Rottgering and DK Suresh will compete in the Round of 32, while Jakob Schnaitter will begin his doubles run alongside Mark Wallner.
Tuesday's Schedule
Rottgering Continues Breakthrough Run
Rottgering will return to the court following a breakout opening three days in his Winston-Salem Open debut.
The reigning ACC Freshman of the Year has already picked up three victories at the tournament, battling through qualifying before earning the first ATP Tour main-draw win of his career. Rottgering opened qualifying with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hunter Heck before defeating Hugo Grenier, 6-4, 6-1, in the second qualifying round.
The Dutchman carried that momentum into the main draw Monday, taking down world No. 77 Jan Choinski, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, to advance to the Round of 32.
Rottgering will face world No. 58 Tomas Machac in Tuesday's Round of 32 in the third match of the day on court two.
The rising sophomore enters the tournament following one of the most decorated freshman seasons in Wake Forest men's tennis history. He helped the Demon Deacons capture the ACC regular-season and ACC Championship titles while earning ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP and ITA Carolina Regional Rookie of the Year honors. He finished the collegiate season ranked No. 24 nationally in singles and posted an 18-3 record with eight ranked victories.
Suresh Looks to Continue Deep Run
Suresh will also compete in the Round of 32 after another impressive performance in Winston-Salem.
The Demon Deacon battled through qualifying for the second consecutive year, defeating Roger Pascual Ferra in three sets before falling to Abedallah Shelbayh in the second qualifying round. Suresh earned his way into the main draw as a lucky loser and took full advantage of the opportunity Monday, defeating world No. 83 Marcos Giron, 6-3, 7-5, for his first career ATP Tour main-draw victory.
Now ranked No. 400 in the world, Suresh will take on world No. 51 Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Tuesday's Round of 32.
Suresh returns to Winston-Salem one year after a breakthrough performance at the tournament. In 2025, he battled through qualifying, defeating world No. 300 Aidan Mayo and world No. 126 Alejandro Tabilo to reach his first ATP Tour main draw. He also teamed with fellow Demon Deacon Luca Pow in doubles, advancing to the Round of 16.
Suresh graduated from Wake Forest this spring after helping the Demon Deacons win both the ACC regular-season and ACC Championship titles. He earned ITA Singles and Doubles All-America honors during his senior campaign and finished the season ranked No. 37 nationally in singles.
Schnaitter Begins Doubles Play
Schnaitter will also represent the Demon Deacons Tuesday, teaming with Mark Wallner for a Round of 32 matchup against Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow.
The duo is scheduled to compete in the fourth match on Court 3, with play beginning at 2 p.m.
Tuesday's action comes as the Winston-Salem Open continues its run at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The ATP 250 event is the final ATP Tour stop before the US Open and features a 48-player singles main draw and 16-team doubles draw.
With two Demon Deacons already through to the Round of 32 and Schnaitter set to begin doubles play, Wake Forest will once again have a strong presence on its home courts at the tournament.
