Five Deacs to Represent at Wyndham Championship

Current PGA Tour member Cam Young will look to defend his 2025 title this upcoming week.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Wake Forest golf alumni and one current player will be in action this week at the 2026 Wyndham Championship, held August 5-9 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. Cam Young, Webb Simpson, Alex Fitzpatrick, Michael Brennan and Lorenzo Rodriguez are in this year's field of the PGA Tour event.
In 2025, Young captured his first PGA Tour win with a six-stroke lead. The 2019 graduate and two-time All-American went 22-under to become the 23rd first-time winner of the event, alongside Simpson.
Simpson is one of four Deacons to win the Wyndham Championship after capturing the first-place finish in 2011. The 2012 U.S. Open winner is searching for his first PGA Tour top-ten finish this season and his first Tour win since 2020.
Fitzpatrick ('22) is on the hunt for his second win this season, following his victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this past April. The three-time All American aims to become the fifth Deacon to win the Wyndham Championship.
This upcoming week marks Brennan's ('24) first time competing at the Wyndham, as he searches for his first top-five finish this season. Most recently, the four-time All-ACC selection posted a T15 finish at 11-under-par at the Rocket Classic.
Rodriguez is the only current Deac in the field, after carding a 63 at qualifiers on Monday, at Bermuda Run. This tournament marks the rising sophomore's first PGA Tour tournament.
"Happy for Lorenzo Rodriguez," said Wake Forest Head Coach Jerry Haas. "He played in the regionals at the NCAA and had a misfortune on the ninth hole of his first round as his ball split in half and it ended up going out of bounds after a perfect swing, but he handled it beautifully. That was in May and here we are in August and it's funny how things turn around. He shot 29 in back nine to end up with 63 and qualify for his first PGA Tour event. We will have five Demon Deacons playing at the Wyndham so that's pretty cool."
The Demon Deacons have a rich history at the PGA Tour's Greensboro event. In addition to Young winning the Wyndham Championship in 2025 and Simpson winning in 2011, Scott Hoch won the 2001 Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic and Lanny Wadkins won the 1983 Greater Greensboro Open.
