Wake Forest Tops Charts In Texas After Two Rounds at Stephens Cup

Senior Macy Pate leads the Deacs in second place at five-under-par.
FRISCO, Texas – Through two rounds of competition at the PGA Frisco, No. 7 Wake Forest women's golf is in second place and one stroke behind the leader at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in Frisco, Texas.
The Demon Deacons stayed in the top half of teams all day, but cemented itself in second place during round two. Senior Macy Pate spearheaded the charge, totaling nine birdies across rounds and a bogey-free back nine in round one. Pate holed out for eagle on hole 9 during round two to close the gap between individual leader Molly McLean from South Carolina to one stroke.
The remaining four Deacs were all inside the top-20, with two inside the top-10. Junior Chloe Kovelesky and freshman Vidhi Lakhawala are T8 at even par heading into tomorrow. Kovelesky fired a 69 during round one, with five birdies across the morning.
Lakhawala completed a clean front nine during round one, and recorded six birdies so far this tournament.
Freshmen Benedicte Brent-Petersen and Havanna Torstensson carded rounds over par in the morning, but found their way up the leaderboard with a birdie-filled afternoon. Four birdies and a bogey-free back nine saw Brent-Petersen up into T12 at one-over.
Torstensson birdied five of her last six holes during round two to finish one under on the round and two-over overall, and T16.
As a team, Wake Forest leads the field with 38 birdies in 36 holes and is one of two teams with an eagle.
Round Three Due Up
The final round of play will begin at 1:24 p.m. ET, after which an individual champion will be determined. Following the conclusion of stroke play, the top four teams will advance to the match play finals on Wednesday, with the top two teams advancing to the championship final.
