Skandera Named ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week

Tuesday marked the first weekly honor for the Wake Forest first-year runner.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wake Forest men's cross country first-year Daniel Skandera earned notable recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Monday afternoon, being named the ACC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Week. It was the first such career honor for the Warrior, Ala., native.
In the men's season opener this past Friday (Sept. 18), Skandera had a standout showing during the 14th annual adidas XC Challenge. He clocked 17:156.0 for a sixth-place finish – competing among a field of 16 teams and over 160 student-athletes. His result helped Wake Forest clinch the team title for the first time in the event's history. Skandera was one of six Deacs to place inside the race's top 10 finishers.
Skandera became the first Wake Forest men's runner to be named Freshman of the Week since Rocky Hansen on Oct. 17, 2023.
"Daniel does a great job every day," said Wake Forest Director of Track & Field and Cross Country John Hayes. "He's consistent and he listens as well as anyone. He's going to have a great collegiate career, so this is just the start."
Wake Forest men's cross country is back in action next month on Oct. 9, partaking in the 17th annual Nuttycombe Invitational.
