Brooke Wilson Secures Top-10 Finish at Meadows Challenge

The Demon Deacons finished sixth in a strong team field.
EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Senior Brooke Wilson clocked a top-10 finish to lead the Wake Forest women's cross country team to a sixth-place team finish at the Meadows Challenge in Princeton, N.J. Saturday morning.
Wilson, making her first appearance of the 2026 season, crossed the 6K finish line in a time of 19:59.4 to snag eighth place. The Demon Deacons finished sixth in the team race with 201 points in the strong team field, finishing ahead of nationally-ranked teams in No. 13 Penn State (7th place; 222 points) and No. 25 Princeton (8th place ; 226 points).
Freshman Emry Schwalm placed 31st with a time of 21:03.8 in her collegiate 6K debut. Grace Wassell crossed the line in 21:03.8 to finish 49th, while freshman Julia Score was right behind in 50th place with a time of 21:04.0 in her first collegiate 6K race. Graduate student Maisie Wilmer rounded out the point-scoring pack for the Demon Deacons with a time of 21:19.6 in her first appearance of the season.

It was a really tough race with the conditions and I thought that was pretty close to the best version of the team we lined up. The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams will both compete in the 17th annual Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9. Hosted by the Wisconsin Badgers, the event will feature the Deacs' men's and women's teams racing on the same course for the first time this fall.
The Deacs last competed in the invitational two seasons ago on Sept. 27, 2024.
