		 Buchan Named Assistant Athletic Director For Media Relations

 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Dean Buchan, the Sports Information Director at the University of Kansas for the past 10 years, has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Wake Forest. Buchan, a native of North Carolina, will begin his duties at Wake Forest on May 1st. "I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work at a fantastic school like Wake Forest," said Buchan. "I grew up in ACC and Demon Deacon country, and I'm pleased to be returning to the area." At Kansas, Buchan was responsible for the day-to-day media relations operations for a 20-sport Division I athletics program. He served as the primary media contact for the Jayhawks' men's basketball program and also assisted in all media operations for the football program. During his time at KU, Buchan designed and implemented Kansas' first official athletic website and was part of a six-person committee that organized "100 Years of Kansas Basketball," a season-long celebration. He has earned 16 different citations from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for publications and feature writing. Prior to his tenure at Kansas, Buchan was the Assistant Sports Information Director and Publications Coordinator at East Carolina University from 1987-90. There he handled all media relations duties for the Pirates' baseball, women's basketball and swimming programs and served as editor of ECU's alumni magazine. During his time at ECU, Buchan also worked on the communication staffs for the 1989 and 1990 Orange Bowl football games. Buchan attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where earned a bachelor's degree in health education in 1987. While at UNCW, he worked as a student assistant in the sports information office and was sports editor of the school paper.
