Lyman, Kraus Take Top Awards At Wake Forest Banquet

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Linebacker Dustin Lyman and distance runner Janelle Kraus received the top athletic awards at Wake Forest's Winter/Spring Sports Banquet Monday evening at Bridger Field House.
Lyman, a 1999 First-Team All-ACC football player who was selected in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, was the recipient of the Arnold Palmer Award as the school's top male athlete.
Kraus, who earned All-America honors in both cross country and track and won four ACC titles over the past year, was awarded the Marge Crisp Award as the leading female athlete. It marked the third straight year that she has received that honor.
Team MVPs were also named in the winter and spring sports. They were: Darius Songaila (men's basketball), Alisha Mosley (women's basketball), Johan Hansen (men's tennis), Jay Morgan (men's golf), Maria Beautell and Nuria Clau (women's golf), Dan Conway (baseball) and John Stone and Stephan Pro (men's track). Kraus was named the MVP in women's track, while women's tennis deferred its MVP selection until the end of the season.
Field hockey player Amy Marchell and football placekicker Matthew Burdick were honored as the 2000 recipients of the ACC Awards for Excellence in Scholarship and Athletics, while Ervin Murray received the Murray Greason Award, presented annually to the men's basketball player who has most impacted his teammates through hard work, determination, effort and performance. |
