Memorable Day For Bill Haas
What a 24-hour period senior golfer Bill Haas will enjoy. On Monday (May 17) morning, he will graduate from Wake Forest University. He'll then jump on a private jet and fly to Fort Worth to accept the Ben Hogan Award as the nation's top collegiate golfer. The next day, Haas and teammates depart for the NCAA Regional.
Three All-Americans Graduating Together
Graduation Day will be bittersweet for field hockey coach Jennifer Averill, who will see three All-Americans graduate in one day. Seniors Kelly Doton and Katie Ridd were first team All-American and Lucy Shaw was a third team selection in 2003. The trio was instrumental in helping Wake Forest win back-to-back national championships. Doton, of course, is the 2003 Honda Award Winner and National Player of the Year.
One Smart Booter
Wiggy Saunders of the men's soccer team is graduating pre-med, plans of attending medical school, earned the Weaver-James-Corrigan scholarship Award, made the Dean's List and ACC Academic Honor Roll. On the field, he was a three-year starter on a top-ten team.
Free Agent Foursome
A small but talented senior class will depart Wake Forest's football program. Among them are four players who recently signed NFL free agent contracts - Kellen Brantley (Tennessee), Tyson Clabo (Denver), Mark Moroz (Tampa Bay), and Quintin Williams (Miami).
A Means To An End
When most seniors will be going through graduation ceremonies Monday morning, golfer Deborah Means will be in Auburn, AL, playing a round of golf. Means and the Deacons begin play in the NCAA Championship May 18.
Dr. B?
Junior walk-on Scott Benken won't use his final year of eligibility to play on the Deacon men's basketball team. He graduates Monday and has plans to enroll in pharmacy school.
