Julie Griffin Named Director Of CHAMPS/Life Skills Program
June 11, 2001 WINSTON-SALEM -- Julie Griffin, who served as director of Wake Forest University's Varsity Club since 1986, was named director of the school's CHAMPS/Life Skills program today. Griffin, a 1969 Wake Forest graduate, has worked with Demon Deacon athletics in a variety of roles since 1971. Her new position will be housed in the new Student Athlete Enhancement Center, which will open this fall. The CHAMPS/Life Skills program falls under the academic services umbrella within the Wake Forest athletic department. In her new role, Griffin will assist student-athletes in their personal and career development as well spearheading community service activities. "Julie's experience and her ties to Wake Forest will greatly strengthen our CHAMPS/Life Skills program," associate athletic director for academic services Dwight Lewis said. "I think our students will enjoy working with Julie, who brings a wealth of knowledge and a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to our program." Griffin began working at her alma mater in 1971 when she served as assistant director of alumni affairs until 1973. In 1974 she began a two-year tenure with the Deacon Club as director of promotions. In 1986 she was named director of the Varsity Club and was in that role for 15 years. |
