GREENSBORO, NC - Davis Whitfield, an Assistant Athletic Director for Operations and Facilities Management at Wake Forest University for the past four years, has been named to fill the position of Director of Championships for the Atlantic Coast Conference as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

"I am delighted to have a person with Davis' qualifications and background on our staff," Swofford said. "His experience in game and championship management both at the school, conference and NCAA level will serve him and the league well."

Whitfield, who has been involved in athletics administration for the past nine years, joined the Wake Forest staff in May of 1998 after serving as an Assistant Athletic Director Operations and Facilities at Campbell University from July 1995 to April, 1998. Prior to this three year stay at Campbell, Whitfield worked as an Athletics Administrative Intern and Athletics Operations Assistant at the University of North Carolina from August, 1993 to July, 1995.

During his four years at Wake Forest, Whitfield was responsible for the planning, directing, organizing and management of all athletic game operations and for the management of all home athletic contests for the school's 18 varsity sports. Whitfield was also responsible for the hosting of 12 NCAA and six ACC championships during his tenure at Wake Forest.

Whitfield received his BA degree in 1993 from the University of North Carolina, where he was a member of the school's baseball team and a member of the 1992 ACC Honor Roll. In May of 1995, Whitfield earned a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from North Carolina.
