Wake Forest Finishes 32nd In The NACDA Director's Cup Standings

Wake Forest recorded the highest finish in school history in the final 2002-03 NACDA Director??s Cup Standings, which were released today.

With a 32nd-place final ranking, Wake Forest finished 10 spots higher than in 2001-02 and one place higher than its previous high-ranking of 33rd in 2000-01. Paced by an NCAA championship in field hockey ?V the first national title by a Deacon women??s team -- Wake Forest racked up a school-best 526.5 points. Nine different WFU teams earned cup points, including ACC co-champion women??s cross country and ACC regular season champions men??s basketball, men??s soccer and field hockey. The Deacon men??s golf team earned 77.5 points for its top five finish in the NCAA championships.

Stanford won the overall title for the ninth consecutive year. The NACDA Director??s Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to the best overall college athletic programs in the country. Texas finished second, followed by Ohio State in third.

Wake Forest finished fourth among all ACC teams behind North Carolina (8th), Virginia (19th) and Duke (21st). Florida State finished 38th, NC State 43rd, Clemson 48th and Georgia Tech 53rd. Among all private schools, Wake Forest finished fifth nationally behind Stanford (1st), Notre Dame (t-13th), Southern Cal (t-13th) and Duke.
