No. 25 WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS CLEMSON & FLORIDA STATE AS ACC PLAY BEGINS
The Wake Forest women's soccer team continues its four-game homestand at the friendly confines of Spry Stadium this weekend as the 25th-ranked Demon Deacons open ACC play this weekend with a pair of home matches against 7th-ranked Clemson and Florida State. The Demon Deacons and the Tigers will square off on Friday at 7 p.m. while the Deacs will face the Seminoles on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Wake Forest's record currently stands at 4-1 after splitting a pair of matches last weekend at the Wake Forest/Nike Invitational. The Demon Deacons downed Oregon, 2-0, before suffering their first defeat of the year at the hands of UCLA, 1-0. The Deacons' offensive attack continues to be paced by senior forward Anne Shropshire (Lexington, KY), who leads the squad in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8). Shropshire has already set new Wake Forest career records for goals (24), assists (25) and points (73).

Freshman forward Joline Charlton (Stone Mountain, GA) has made an immediate impact with three goals in five games while sophomore defender Stacy Roeck (Solana Beach, CA) anchors an outstanding defense that is allowing just 0.40 goals per game.

MEN'S SOCCER HOSTS DAVIDSON, OPENS ACC PLAY
The 24th-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team will host the Davidson Wildcats on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Spry Stadium at 7 p.m. The Wildcats were ranked 5th in the nation, but lost three straight last week to drop to 2-3 on the season. Wake Forest leads the all-time series with Davidson 12-4-1. The two teams met once last season with Wake winning 4-1 at Davidson.

After hosting the Wildcats, the Deacons open ACC play at the Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday, Sept. 19. Gametime is set for 2 p.m. The Cavaliers were ranked 14th last week, but lost their ACC opener to Maryland on Sunday and now have a record of 2-2 overall and 0-1 in ACC play. Last year's match between the Cavaliers and the Demon Deacons ended in a 2-2 deadlock. Virginia leads the all-time series 20-2-2.

The men's soccer team comes into this week unbeaten at 3-0-1. Last week, they had a home field win over Liberty on Wednesday and a 3-3 tie at South Carolina on Saturday. In the win over Liberty, sophomore Chris Lonteen (Rolling Meadows, IL) scored both of the Deacons goals to lead WFU to a 2-1 victory over the Flames. Sophomore Jamal Seale (Overland Park, KS) added an assist for the Deacons. In the South Carolina game, junior Jaron Barbee (Hinckley, OH), sophomore Matt Thompson (Wellesley, MA) and senior Greg Krauss (Clearwater, FL) each scored a goal, but South Carolina scored two late goals to tie the game at 3-3 and force the game to overtime. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game ended 3-3.

Lonteen leads the Deacons in points so far this season. Lonteen has seven points on the season and is followed by Barbee with six, and the two players are tied for the team lead in goals with three apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sean Conner (Georgetown, TX) has allowed only six goals and has saved 17 shots in 390 minutes of play.

FIELD HOCKEY CONTINUES PLAY WITH THREE GAMES
The Wake Forest field hockey team will try to remain perfect on the season when they play host to the Davidson Wildcats on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Kentner Stadium. The Deacons will then travel to Louisville, Ky., for a tournament there on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Wake takes on Miami (Ohio), followed by a game against Pacific on Sunday. Both games will be played at noon. The Deacons played Davidson last season and came away with a 9-0 at Kentner Stadium. The last meeting between Wake and Miami (Ohio) came in 1996 with the Deacons winning 11-0. Wake and Pacific have never met.

The field hockey team had an impressive week last week, winning three games to run its record to 5-0 on the season. The Deacons shut out Appalachian State, 5-0, on the road to open the week.
