Deacons Off To A Good Start In Sears Cup Race

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Following strong showings by the field hockey and men's cross country teams, Wake Forest ranks 11th in the first edition of Sears Cup rankings, second among Atlantic Coast Conference schools. Colorado maintains an overall lead.

In the current standings, which include field hockey, men's and women's cross country, Demon Deacons have 108 points. Wake Forest picked up 75 points for a berth in the field hockey national semifinals and 33 points for a 19th place finish at the men's cross country championships.

The top ten includes Colorado (162), Stanford (161), Michigan (153), BYU (150), NC State (149), Michigan State (127), Northern Arizona (125), Georgetown (121), Arkansas (115) and Providence (112).

Wake Forest currently ranks ahead of seven ACC schools including Virginia (14th place), Maryland (15th), North Carolina (17th), Duke (30th), Georgia Tech (41st). Florida State and Clemson have not earned any points in the Sears Cup standings.
