WFU Remains In Director's Cup Top Five Dec. 18, 2003 Complete Release in PDF Format Wake Forest is in fifth place out of more than 115 Division I schools in the United States Sports Academy Director's Cup standings released today. The Director's Cup, a combined effort of the National Assocation of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today, uses a point system to rank the most successful overall athletic programs in the nation. Michigan is currently in first place, followed by North Carolina. UCLA and Stanford are tied for third, followed by Wake Forest, Connecticut, BYU, Maryland and Villanova. Wake Forest, which recorded its highest finish in the Cup standings last year (32nd), enjoyed a very successful fall. The Deacon field hockey team won its second straight NCAA championship, and the men's and women's soccer teams and women's cross country team all participated in NCAA postseason play. Seven ACC schools are ranked among the top 21 in the Cup standings. The current standings include field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country. |
