Bill Oakes joined Wake Forest Athletics in 2011. He serves as the senior associate athletic director for special projects and the tournament director for the Winston-Salem Open.

Oakes is responsible for all aspects of the WSO, which is an ATP World Tour 250 event held each August at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The tournament has featured a number of the top players in the world, and was named the 2016 ATP World Tour 250 Tournament of the Year.
In his time at Wake Forest, Oakes has overseen number of different areas for Wake Forest Athletics including athletic communications, external communications, marketing, event management, LJVM management, concessions, the ACC Network and the relationships with IMG and Spectra, as well as the sport administrator for Wake Forest's women's volleyball, women's tennis, men's soccer and women's golf programs. Oakes now oversees special projects for the Department and serves as the sport administrator for women's volleyball and the ACC committee chair for women's tennis.
Previously he served as the director of sales and marketing for the USTA Southern Section where he oversaw sales, marketing, public relations, tennis service representatives, membership development, publications, promotions and professional tennis for the largest of the USTA's 17 Sections since 2002.
Prior to that, he spent over 15 years working for ProServ, one of the largest sports marketing agencies in the world, as the general manager of the Atlanta office and tournament director of the ATP Tournament in Atlanta, The AT&T Challenge.
Bill has produced, marketed, and sold sponsorships for professional tennis, beach volleyball, cycling, basketball, and golf events for close to 30 years.
From 2004-10 Bill co-hosted a tennis issues television show that was shown weekly during the summer on the Fox Sports South and NBC WXIA in Atlanta titled Matchpoint Southeast, and a similar summer radio show on 680 the Fan (680 AM) in Atlanta. Between 2009 and 2012, he has also handled play-by-play and color commentary duties at the US Open (the most attended annual sporting event in the world) on usopen.org radio.
Bill resides in Winston-Salem with his wife Shea, and their two children Ansley and Lealand.
