Wake Forest Band Performs with Rascal Flatts

The Spirit of the Old Gold and Black marching band performed with Rascal Flatts in Greensboro

Entering his 22nd season as Wake Forest's Director of Bands in 2015-16, Kevin Bowen has led the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black for over two decades.

In his role, Bowen is responsible for the band's performance at football and men's and women's basketball games, along with directing various concert bands and jazz ensembles. Additionally, Bowen provides administrative supervision for all bands.

A native of Dickson, Tenn., Bowen received his B.S. in music education from Tennessee Tech in 1979. He then furthered his musical education by getting his master's degree from the University of Louisville in 1985 and his Ph.D from Florida State in 1995.

Prior to coming to Wake Forest, Bowen was a band director at various high schools in Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida.

Bowen currently resides in Winston-Salem with his wife Tamara. He has four children: Cole (26), Jenna Beth (24), Matt (21), and Jessica (17).
