Boston College Pulls Away for 56-42 Win Over Wake Forest Feb. 18, 2007 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest shot 23.8 percent, and Boston College pulled away early in the second half for a 56-42 win over the Demon Deacons Sunday afternoon at Joel Coliseum. Wake falls to 9-17 overall and 0-12 in the ACC with the loss. BC moves to 13-13 overall, 3-9 in conference play. Sophomore Yolanda Lavender led the Deacons with 17 points, while classmate Alex Tchangoue scored 11. Junior Christen Brown pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, and freshman Courteney Morris chipped in seven boards. Morris also led the team with four steals. Freshman Tiffany Roulhac dished out a game-high four assists. Wake Forest had its second-worst shooting day of the year, going just 15-for-63 from the floor for 23.8 percent. The Deacs shot 20.9 percent (6-for-29) from three-point range. Boston College pulled away early in the second half after holding a 24-22 lead at halftime. After a bucket from Groves tied the game at 24-24, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run to open up a 34-26 lead at the 14:44 mark. Wake cut the deficit to four, 34-30, five minutes later, but BC responded with four unanswered points to push its lead back to eight. The Deacons didn't get closer than five the rest of the way. Wake Forest led by as many as five, 17-12, in the first half. Boston College erased the deficit with an 8-0 run that gave the visitors a 20-17 lead with 3:24 left in the period. The Deacs won the turnover battle 15-22 but were out-rebounded 45-36. The Eagles shot 37.5 percent (18-of-48) from the field and went 17-of-20 from the free throw line. Mickel Picco led BC with 25 points, while Sarah Marshall chipped in 10. Wake Forest returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 22, when it travels to No. 2-ranked North Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
