Frequently Asked Faculty Adviser Questions

What HES courses are student-athletes and members of the cheer/dance squad required to take?

HES 100 and HES 112.
HES 112 is a substitute for HES 101. All other students take HES 100 and HES 101.

What times are athletic practices scheduled?

Most practices are schedule between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm.

Are student-athletes able to take 8 am courses?

Yes. Some student-athletes just like some students, don't like to take early classes. If you have a question or a concern about timing in a student-athlete's schedule please do not hesitate to call us.

How many hours should student-athletes take?

Student-athletes must take at least 12 hours each semester. Most student-athletes take 15 hours.

What should I do if a student-athlete is struggling personally or academically?

Please give us a call! We want to support you and the student-athlete by providing resources and assistance. We will call you if we have concerns regarding a student.

Why do the student-athletes have to get a signature from an academic counselor before adding or dropping a course?

Student-athletes are required to be registered for 12 hours in order to be eligible to practice or compete. If student-athletes compete while registered for less than 12 hours their team would be required to forfeit the competition; if a student-athlete practiced with less than 12 hours they could endanger their collegiate eligibility. It is important that student-athletes consult with their academic counselor before making any (even minor) changes to their schedules.
