Sarge Tinga Leadership Award
The David "Sarge" Tinga Leadership Award was developed in conjunction with the establishment of the David "Sarge" Tinga Equipment Fund. The award is designed to be presented annually to a student manager for exemplary leadership which best represents the standards of excellence instilled by Sarge in the Wake Forest University student manager program.

This award was first presented following the 2013-2014 school year. Several former student managers were instrumental in the development of the award and reinforcing the standards for which the award should be given. It is our goal that this award reflects all of the qualities shared by Sarge with so many student managers over the years. The video below was created to introduce the impact Sarge had on so many former student managers as well as explain the meaning of the award to the student manager program. (Special thanks to Hannah Bailey, student manager class of 2013, for putting together this video.)
2013-14 Winner - Meredith Holder, Field Hockey
Meredith was a four year student manager and served as a go-to manager for everything, not just for her sport of field hockey. Her leadership and mentoring of others were qualities that she will take with her as she becomes a part of other teams in her career, life and friendships.
2014-2015 Winners - Michael Maugeri & Kevin Piotrowicz, Men's Basketball
Over the past four years, we have been fortunate to have these two individuals as part of the men's basketball managerial team and for the last two seasons both of them did an outstanding job of leading their fellow student managers. When determining a deserving recipient for the David "Sarge" Tinga award, there was no hesitation in recognizing that this year there were two equally deserving winners. It was such a luxury knowing that these two were in charge. They adapted their senior years to a new coaching staff with new demands and they always made sure that the tasks were completed and completed in such a way that still harkens back to the way Sarge would have done things, ethically, honestly, truthfully and with integrity.
2015 Recipient of David "Sarge" Tinga Special Recognition Award - Demarice Reynolds
Demarice was a top candidate for the leadership award in 2014 as a senior. While attending school part time this past year, we were fortunate to be able to offer her part time employment in our department, Equipment Services. Demarice was asked to take on a large amount of responsibility managing the daily operation of the David "Sarge" Tinga Equipment Room. She was also tasked with student manager training and supervision. Her true leadership qualities and ability to manage helped us navigate seamlessly through the year.
