LaTroy Lewis is set to begin his second season on Wake Forest's staff in 2022 as a Special Teams Analyst.
Lewis comes to the Demon Deacons after spending time at South Alabama, as a defensive graduate assistant where he worked with primarily special teams and nickelbacks. Prior to South Alabama, Lewis served as a defensive graduate assistant in his hometown, Akron, Ohio where he worked primarily with outside linebackers.
Prior to his coaching career, Lewis played collegiate football at the University of Tennessee. At Tennessee, Lewis played in and won three consecutive bowl games, while also being named to the All-SEC community service team in 2016.
After his career at Tennessee, Lewis spent time in the NFL. In 2017 as an undrafted free agent for the Oakland Raiders, he tied fellow rookie and former college teammate Derek Barnett for second in NFL preseason sacks.
From Oakland to Houston, Lewis was signed to the Texans practice squad where he eventually joined the active roster. After sacking Jimmy Garoppolo during San Francisco’s 2017 Super Bowl run, Lewis earned his first NFL start the following week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In 2019, Houston released Lewis and he was later signed by the Tennessee Titans. After spending time on both practice squad and active roster, Lewis was released from the Titans. He finished his playing career for the undefeated Houston Roughnecks of the XFL in 2020.
Lewis graduated from University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2017.
