Will Smart, who graduated from Wake Forest in 2023 with a B.A. in Communication, joined the Wake Forest football staff in January 2024 as a defensive graduate assistant. He spent the previous two seasons (2022-23) as a student assistant, working primarily with the defensive line, and was a defensive tackle and nose guard in the program for his first three years (2019-21) as an undergraduate at Wake. He moved into the role as a student assistant with the coaching staff due to an injury that forced him to medically retire.

As a player, he appeared in one game during the 2021 season and four games during the 2020 campaign. For his career, he tallied five tackles, two tackles-for-loss and one sack.
Academically, he was a member of the Dean's List four times and a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
