Samantha Rinkus joined the women's basketball staff as the Digital Media & Recruiting Content Manager ahead of the 2022-23 season.
In her role, she works with the staff to provide digital and social content for all recruiting efforts for the Wake Forest women's basketball program as well as assist with day-to-day content items for the program as a whole.
During Rinkus’ first season working with the program, the Deacs tied the most since the 2011-12 season, defeated four NCAA Tournament teams including wins over two Elite Eight teams and grabbed 12 wins at home, the fourth-highest total in program history.
Additionally, the Demon Deacons signed a top-25 recruiting class according to ESPNW during Flores’ first season on campus. This marks the first time since the 2014 class that the Deacs have signed multiple top-100 players in the same class and just the second time in the ESPNW era.
Rinkus came to Wake Forest from American University where she served as an associate director on the Athletics Communications staff, working with the women's basketball program as well as other programs on campus. She was in the nation's capital for six years and was promoted to associate director ahead of the 2021-22 season.
During her time with the Eagles, Rinkus rebooted and managed the department's visual and graphics content for three years. She oversaw significant growth on all social media channels for her primary sports, and managed postseason coverage for women's basketball (NCAA, WNIT) and field hockey (NCAA).
Rinkus created and produced Beyond the Arc with Head Coach Megan Gebbia - a weekly, season-long show during basketball season. She also helped to overhaul the quality of American women's basketball home broadcasts, shifting from a student-run show to a high-quality broadcast featuring professional talent.
In 2019, Rinkus aided in the redesign and launch of AUEagles.com after a move to SIDEARM Sports.
Rinkus came to American from the University of Missouri where she worked for nearly four years as a strategic communications associate, serving as the primary contact for the cross country and track & field program.
While there she developed and implemented internal and external communications plans for the program during its first season in the SEC, along with serving as the media coordinator for the 2013 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She more than tripled the program's following on Twitter, along with starting up accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
Rinkus earned her bachelor's degree in English & History with minors in creative writing and journalism at Aquinas College. She graduated cum laude and was a four-year varsity student-athlete in cross country and track & field in 2011.
She was an Academic All-American, and in 2011 earned the Sister Helen Louise Brogger Award for Outstanding Female Senior Scholar-Athlete.
